USDA Reminds US Virgin Islands Producers to File Crop Acreage Reports

GAINESVILLE, Fla., July 15, 2021 – Agricultural producers in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) who have not yet completed their crop acreage reports after planting should make an appointment with their U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) office before the applicable deadline.

“Many USDA programs require producers to file an accurate crop acreage report by the applicable deadline,” said Christy Marshall, Acting State Executive Director in the USVI. “Our FSA staff can assist producers in completing acreage reports, including providing maps.”

An acreage report documents a crop grown on a farm or ranch and its intended uses. Filing an accurate and timely acreage report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage can prevent the loss of benefits.

How to File a Report

Producers are encouraged to report the crop acreage after each planting.  At a minimum we ask that as we enter hurricane season that your report reflect your total plantings to date.

Service Center staff continue to work with agricultural producers via phone, email and other digital tools. Because of the pandemic, some USDA Service Centers are open to limited visitors. Contact your Service Center to set up an in-person or phone appointment.

To file a crop acreage report, you will need to provide:

• Crop and crop type or variety.
• Intended use of the crop. (grazing or fresh)
• Number of acres of the crop.
• Map with approximate boundaries for the crop. (we can provide)
• Planting date(s).
• Producer shares.
• Irrigated or not.
